How to Keep a Hoodie Looking Right for Years

A hoodie earns its place by being the piece you grab without thinking. The flip side is that it takes more wear than almost anything else you own, which means how you wash and store it decides whether it still looks right a year from now.

Wash cold, inside out

Cold water is gentler on both the fabric and the color, and turning a hoodie inside out protects the outer surface from friction against zippers and rough fabrics in the same load. Skip the heavy detergent doses. A normal amount does the job, and residue buildup is one of the quiet reasons cotton starts feeling stiff.

Keep it out of the dryer when you can

Heat is what shrinks cuffs, warps hems, and fades color fastest. Lay a hoodie flat or hang it on a wide hanger to air dry. If you have to use a dryer, choose the lowest heat setting and pull it out slightly damp so the fibers finish drying in shape rather than baking in a twist.

Deal with pilling early

Small fabric pills show up wherever a hoodie rubs, usually the cuffs and the sides. A fabric shaver or even a careful pass with a razor removes them in minutes and makes a worn-in hoodie look fresh again. Doing this every few months is far easier than trying to rescue a neglected one.

Store it folded, not stretched

Heavy hoodies pull themselves out of shape on thin hangers, especially at the shoulders. Fold them on a shelf, or use wide, structured hangers if closet space is the only option. Give them room to breathe rather than compressing them into a stack of ten.

Looked after this way, the hoodies in our range hold their fit and color through season after season. You can see the current lineup at wesdawg.com, and if you are deciding between sizes, our FAQs explain how to get sizing help by email.
